ASA Guidelines for Preoperative Fasting
The intended guidelines are only meant for healthy patients of all ages undergoing elective surgery procedures.
These guidelines do not apply to women in labor.
These guidelines may not apply or may need to be modified for patients with conditions that alter gastric emptying, intragastric volume, or patients with a suspected difficult airway.
Note: "Task Force" refers to the ASA Task Force on Preoperative Fasting and Use of Pharmacologic Agents to Reduce the Risk of Pulmonary Aspiration
